A few months after closing down, 't Poatersgat reopened in September 2024 under new management. There's new furniture, it's been cleaned and tidied and looks quite smart. Some will say the clean up has gone too far and it's lost its soul, however, for me the clean up has been positive and improved the place. Expect it to be quite loud later on - for us, the music was already too loud (in an otherwise empty pub early-mid evening) but the staff were keen to please so turned it down. There are around 100 beers on the list, with nine drafts and numerous bottles - overall it's a pretty good list with plenty of good beers. However, we found two different versions of the list and despite a discussion with the (very friendly and helpful) staff, we were unable to ascertain a precise total number of beers. This should be rectified in due course. The new owners are certainly enthusiastic but I am not clear how much beery experience they have - the beer list was riddled with basic typos - but they were very keen to have our feedback and promised to act on it, initially by sorting the list and the typos. It was only day five since reopening so I will give it a few weeks and return to see how they are getting on and how the place is wearing in. But for a first visit in its new guise, I would say I am cautiously optimistic that one of the better beer venues in town has been rescued and will live on, for now at least. NB: they now accept cards as well as cash. Closing time is 3am weekdays, 4am (or later) at weekends.
